Fundraising + Community Engagement Intern (Part-Time)

At Freedom a la Cart we are passionate about the survivors  of human trafficking we serve, our customers, our volunteers, our business partners and our staff.  Freedom a la Cart is an innovative, nonprofit social enterprise and workforce development program born to help survivors of human trafficking build a new life of freedom and self-sufficiency. What started as a single food cart is now a bustling catering company and café + bakery.  We work hard, have fun and roll up our sleeves to empower survivors.

Freedom a la Cart’s Engagement team works to create and cultivate relationships within the community, educate individuals on our organizational mission, and motivate individuals to become advocates and allies of Freedom a la Cart and survivors within our community. 

The Fundraising + Community Engagement Intern will help in sharing Freedom’s mission, vision, and impact primarily through grant research and writing support, fundraising event planning support, communication to our stakeholders, and assistance with administrative tasks. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support Engagement Team with donor relations including: implementing Freedom a la Cart’s first time donor thank you card initiative, as well as sending out tax-deductible receipts, donation acknowledgments, and completing administrative tasks related to donations
  • Assist with research, data collection and preparation of grant proposals and reports 
  • Attend meetings and events as a representative of Freedom a la Cart 
  • Assist with the management of Freedom a la Cart’s Info and Volunteer email accounts
  • Attend and assist with the planning and execution of company volunteer, fundraising, and community events, including Eat Up Columbus 
  • Help maintain donor and volunteer databases 
  • Assist with the coordination of volunteers 
  • Opportunity to work cross functionally and shadow other departments of the social enterprise
  • Other duties as assigned

Ability to conduct quality research  

  • Adaptable people person with strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well with diverse audiences 
  • Interested in a career in fundraising or community engagement for a non-profit organization
  • Well organized and self-directed
  • A total team player with strong work ethic and “can-do” attitude
  • Ability to problem-solve, troubleshoot, anticipate needs and apply sound judgment in new or unusual situations
  • Effectively manage time and prioritize requests to meet deadlines
  • Flexible with the ever ebbing and flowing needs of a growing company
  • Most importantly, love to have fun while creating a more inclusive and equitable world!
